So many websites! So many sources of information! These are a few of the key resources available around campus.

Carmen is the central sign-in for all course web sites. Use Carmen to log in to the websites of every course in which you are enrolled. Course syllabi, assignments, deadlines, etc. will be found here.

The Graduate School--Resource for general policies and procedures. However, your first resource is Mark Cooper, the MSE-WE dept’s Graduate Studies Coordinator.

The Graduate School Handbook provides the over-arching rules for degree completion, registration requirements, academic deadlines, petition procedures, and much more. The student is, ultimately, responsible to meet the rules provided in the Handbook.
OSU Libraries
The OSU Library system has an extensive library system with over 6 million volumes housed in 30+ locations. The closest to the MSE complex is the 18th Avenue Library, roughly two blocks from the MSE dept. You can request books on-line and have them delivered to your campus address.

The Research Commons is found on the third floor of the 18th Avenue Library. It is a place where researchers can connect with each other and with services that support and enable their work. This technology-rich space is a campus hub for collaborative and interdisciplinary research across all fields, with a special focus on Data Management, Digital Humanities, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

The Writing Center at the CSTW offers free help with writing at any stage of the writing process for any member of the university community. During sessions, consultants can work with you on anything from research papers to lab reports, from dissertations to résumés, from proposals to application materials.

Graduate and Professional Student Programs
Programs and services designed specifically for our graduate and professional students provide a supportive and enriching experience outside of the classroom. Includes a link to a Grad School Survival Skills Workshop as well as the Grad/Prof Committee--The Ohio Union Activities Board strives to provide diverse programs and events that are educational, entertaining, and thought-provoking for grad students at OSU. You will be automatically enrolled on their mailing list, no need to opt in.
OSU Student Organizations
With almost 1,400 student organizations, Ohio State provides a wide range of opportunities for students to get involved. In addition to building lasting friendships, student organizations provide many benefits including serving as a medium for academic discourse, personal growth, leadership development, intercultural understanding and community engagement.

International Friendships
International Friendships is a registered Ohio State University student organization and Christian community group seeking to welcome international students. This group offers airport pickup and temporary housing as well as welcome activities and English conversation partners.
Council of Graduate Students
The Council of Graduate Students represents grad student needs to the university administration. We like to have MSE & WE representatives on the Council every year, so if you’re interested, let Mark Cooper know.

Department of Recreational Sports
The Department of Recreational Sports and its facilities are available to enrolled students (students pay a Rec Sports fee each term and may make use of the facilities). Programs and services range from group fitness, aquatics, adventure trips, climbing, drop-in fitness and recreation, intramural sports, sport clubs, massage therapy, personal training, disc golf, roller hockey and many other activities. Recreational Sports is enhanced by its award winning indoor and outdoor facilities, including five indoor locations and more than 90 acres of outdoor space.
Office of International Affairs
The Office of International Affairs (OIA) provides support and guidance for our international student community. OIA welcomes students at New Student Check-in and Orientation, helps with visa compliance matters, helps students connect with social events, and more.

By default students will be enrolled in SHI when they enroll in credits at OSU. Coverage may be waived if students can show proof of sufficient coverage from another source (employer, parent, etc.). - Personal Safety
Empowerment and Self Defense Taught by certified instructors, this comprehensive course begins with awareness education, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, and progresses to the basics of hands-on defense training.
Stay Safe, Buckeyes This one-hour, video-based class module covers topics such as crime prevention, how to report a crime, responding to people on the street who aggressively ask for money, self-defense, mental health and more. - Community Police Academy: dps.osu.edu/community-academy The Community Police Academy is an open forum for officers and community members to interact and engage in an educational environment promoting positive communication and cultivating new ideas and methods in working together. The course will provide a unique perspective into the daily activities and the decision-making process of OSUPD officers.

Student Legal Services is a legal clinic run through the College of Law. SLS is a non-profit law office that provides legal advice, representation, education, and resources to Ohio State students regarding the legal issues students typically face. By default you will be charged the annual SLS fee.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended (otherwise known as FERPA), sets forth requirements regarding the privacy of student records. FERPA governs release of records maintained by an educational institution and access to those records.

This team supports faculty, students, and staff in all aspects of the college’s mission through the strategic integration and support of technology investments.
Transportation and Parking

Transportation and Traffic Management handles concerns regarding parking and transportation access to students and staff. If you hold a GRA position, you are eligible to purchase a staff surface lot or garage access for the coming year (higher cost but more options).

COTA--Note that this is a separate bus system from the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA), which serves the greater Columbus region. A valid BuckID will permit students to ride the COTA system at no additional cost.

View the CampusParc website to register for campus parking access. On campus students may purchase a "C" parking pass to park on campus in various surface lots. Students who hold a GRA and/or Fellowship are eligible to purchase a “B” Staff pass which permits access to all “C” Student and B Staff spots, as well as access to a garage such as Arps Garage (for an additional cost).
