About

David Phillips is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering’s Welding Engineering Program.  He earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D., all in Welding Engineering at The Ohio State University.  Prior to earning his Ph.D., Dr. Phillips worked for approximately 20 years in industry, with most of his Welding Engineering experiences in both the automotive and aerospace industry sectors.

As a Professor of Practice, Dr. Phillips brings his industry experience to a wide variety of courses he teaches in the Welding Engineering Program, including courses in welding metallurgy, robotics, resistance, and solid-state welding.  Dr. Phillips is also a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), an AWS Certified Welding Inspector (C.W.I.), and an IIW International Welding Engineer (I.W.E.).
