Welding Engineering adds new robot to its repertoire

Posted:

Dr. David Phillips learns how to operate Welding Engineering's new welding robot located at the Edison Joining Technology Center. "The welding engineering program is excited to add the equipment, which will benefit welding engineering students through an updated 600-level  robot welding course," says David, an MSE Associate Professor of Practice.

In January 2011 the Welding Engineering program added a new state-of-the-art Motoman welding robot cell to its high bay laboratory at the Edison Joining Technolgy Center (EJTC) . Advanced servo motor and robot motion control are among the many outstanding features of the Motoman MA 1400 robot. In addition, the robot's accompanying Miller Gas Metal Arc Welding power supply includes an advanced technology feature known as Regulated Metal Deposition, which improves welding quality and productivity on stainless steel pipe. The robot was given to EJTC through an arrangement with Edison Welding Institute and Yaskawa America.
