Description

Resistance Spot Welding in the Automotive Industry is a two-day training program developed by Professors Menachem Kimchi and David Phillips in the Welding Engineering program and Materials Science and Engineering Department at The Ohio State University. Through lectures covering fundamental concepts and “hands-on” labs using a DC Resistance Spot Welding machine, participants will be trained on the Resistance Spot Welding process, with a focus on how it is utilized in the automotive industry. Included with the course is a book authored by the two course instructors titled “Resistance Spot Welding: Fundamentals and Applications for the Automotive Industry.”

Upon completion of the course participants will be able to:

• Process physics and fundamentals

• Machines, electrodes, and tooling

• Important process variables

• Spot welding of steels

• Spot welding of coated materials

• Spot welding of aluminum and aluminum to steel

• Weld quality, testing, monitoring, and control

• Spot welding production issues such as multiple sheet stack ups

• Codes associated with spot welding

• Advancements in spot welding modeling

Course fee

$1,299 per person

Early-bird discount $1,145 per person if registered by June 22 at 12:00 PM ET.

Cancellations and Refunds

Full refund minus a $75 administrative fee if you cancel more than three weeks before a training course date. No refunds will be given after that time. Registrations can be transferred.

Ohio's TechCred Program gives businesses the chance to upskill employees. Businesses who submit applications (for approved programs) are reimbursed up to $2000 per credential, when current or prospective employees complete technology-focused credentials. Check with your employer to learn if they're willing to assist you with enrolling in the TechCred program and receiving funding to pay for the Resistance Spot Welding program.

Meet the instructors

Dr. David Phillips is a professor of practice in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering’s Welding Engineering Program. He earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D., all in welding engineering at The Ohio State University. Prior to earning his Ph.D., Dr. Phillips worked for approximately 20 years in industry, with most of his welding engineering experience in both the automotive and aerospace industry sectors.

As a professor of practice, Dr. Phillips brings his industry experience to a wide variety of courses he teaches in the Welding Engineering Program, including courses in welding metallurgy, robotics, resistance, and solid-state welding. Dr. Phillips is also a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), an AWS Certified Welding Inspector (C.W.I.), and an IIW International Welding Engineer (I.W.E.).

Dr. Menachem Kimchi is a clinical professor in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, Welding Engineering Program at The Ohio State University. Previously, M. Kimchi was a principal research engineer, technology leader, and business development manager for EWI Manufacturing. Menachem has been involved extensively with research and development projects for the automotive and steel industries and has published over 80 technical papers in the areas of resistance and solid state welding processes of advanced materials.
