Reading and writing scientific literature will comprise (at a minimum) 50% of your time in graduate school. The OSU Libraries spend many millions each year to provide resources that are not freely available online. An overview of available resources and services will be provided for those new to the OSU Libraries system, with an emphasis on items found on the OSU Engineering LibGuide.

Engineering Library resources:

This page contains information on all that was discussed in the presentation.

To recommend a book for the library, please do so (http://libanswers.osu.edu/).  I’m happy to authorize the purchase of any and all research related titles.  Unfortunately, publishers often won’t sell e-textbooks to libraries, but we do have some MSE e-texts:  http://guides.osu.edu/c.php?g=293381&p=1954046/MSEtexts#s-lib-ctab-11637892-1

Things worth doing:

  1. Establish an ORCiD (you can do this now, you do not need to wait until you are ready to publish):  http://orcid.org/
Worldwide organization of libraries and publishers.  Assigns all of your research to a number in addition to your name.

  2. Establish an ILLiad account: https://library.osu.edu/ill/article-express   Allows you to request scanned copies of articles for which we do not have an e-subscription.  You can also use this to request books that we do not have.

  3. Install the OSU Libraries bookmarklet:  http://guides.osu.edu/engineering/off-campus_access
Allows you to easily access articles and other resources from off-campus
