75 Years of WE at Ohio State
75 years: Celebrating the Semisesquicentennial of the Welding Engineering Program at The Ohio State University
1948 - 2023
Roots of welding engineering at The Ohio State University reach to 1948 when arc welding became the prominent means of joining iron and steel in the post-war era. Its role in the repair and manufacturing of equipment was vital to the country's defense program, but the science behind joining needed refined. Ohio State embraced welding engineering and dedicated resources to its advancement.
Throughout the 75 years, welding engineering has been a part of four departments, including a standalone department for nearly three decades. The program is a static fixture among the timelines of Ohio State and the College of Engineering, thanks to the thousands of Buckeyes associated with its legacy. Welding engineering at Ohio State celebrates 75 years of growth, collaboration, innovations, and advancements that collectively earn the program world-renowned status. The yearlong celebration includes a reception, tailgate, invited speakers, a symposium, testimonials, and support opportunities.
