Ultrasonically assisted resistance spot welding ManufacturingX Lab

Power ultrasound has been known to improve various manufacturing processes. The ultrasonic energy can modify material behavior and properties in both solid and liquid phases, known as acoustic softening, acoustic streaming and cavitation effects. In this project, an innovative ultrasonically assisted resistance spot welding (URW) process is developed. The ultrasonic energy is utilized to enhance the conventional resistance spot welding and improve weld properties for various lightweight materials.

The project is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.
