Stanislav Rokhlin

Stanislav I. Rokhlin is a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University. He joined the faculty at OSU in 1985.

His primary research interests are in the experimental and modeling areas of wave propagation and scattering with applications to nondestructive characterization and imaging of inhomogeneous and anisotropic materials including composites, and in interphase mechanics and environmental degradation and failure.

He has several patents, has authored over 200 journal publications, and has given numerous invited presentations. His book “Physical Ultrasonics of Composites” was published in 2011 by Oxford University Press. For his fundamental and applied research Dr. Rokhlin has received the Charles H. Jennings Memorial Medal Award from AWS in 1986, the Alcoa Foundation Award in 1988 and 1989, the A.F. Davis Silver Medal Award from AWS in 1991, the Faculty Research Award in 1990, 1994 and 1998 from OSU, in 1996 the NASA Technical Recognition Award, and in 1998 the ASNT Outstanding Paper Award. He received the 2004 Lumley Individual Research Award, the 2004 Lumley Interdisciplinary Research Award and the 2006 and 2009 Lumley Interdisciplinary Research Awards, all from the Ohio State University College of Engineering “In recognition of outstanding research accomplishments”. Dr. Rokhlin is an elected fellow of ASA. He has also served on the ASNT Board of Directors and is an associate editor of Materials Evaluation. He was on sabbatical at Imperial College, London in 2007.
