Boian Alexandrov, Carolin Fink, Huimin Wang, and Jorge Penso are co-recipients and authors of the award-winning paper, “Filler Metal 16-8-2 for Structural Welds on 304H and 347H Stainless Steels for High-Temperature Service”, published in the December 2020 issue of Welding Journal

This peer-selected award honors the dedication and accomplishments of Professor Warren F. Savage to the field of welding metallurgy. Regarded as the most prestigious award in the field of welding metallurgy, the endowed Warren F. Savage Memorial Award was awarded to the co-authors' work as the best representation of innovative research resulting in a better understanding of the metallurgical principles related to welding.

Carolin Fink and Hiumin Wang performed the research as postdocs in Dr. Alexandrov's research group, the Center for Weldability Evaluation. Jorge Penso was a collaborator on the research and funded the project. He is a Materials and Corrosion Specialist at Shell and completed his doctoral degree in welding engineering at Ohio State. Fink joined Ohio State as a professor with the welding engineering program in 2017. Wang is currently a professor at the University of Science and Technology in Beijing.

The foursome will be honored at the AWS Awards Recognition Ceremony, which will be held in conjunction with the 2021 FABTECH show in Chicago, Illinois from September 13-16, 2021.
