Posted:

The Ohio State University College of Engineering’s graduate program is ranked first in Ohio and 16th among all public universities in U.S. News & World Report’s 2022 Best Graduate Schools issue published on March 30, 2021.

Several departments within the college also placed among the top programs in the nation. The Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering ranked 10th among its peers within American universities. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering retained its rank of 12th overall.

Other top 25 engineering disciplines at Ohio State include nuclear engineering (15), industrial/manufacturing engineering (16), aerospace engineering (19), and computer engineering (22).

For the U.S. News rankings of graduate programs, 216 engineering schools that grant doctoral degrees were surveyed. Ohio State Engineering is ranked 30th overall.

“We take great pride in being the top producer of engineers in Ohio and in preparing a diverse composition of engineering graduate students for a global workforce,” said Assistant Dean of Graduate Programs La’Tonia Stiner-Jones.

More than 25% of current engineering graduate students are female and underrepresented minority enrollment has increased 70% since 2014.

While overall engineering graduate school rankings are derived from a combination of 10 quantitative and qualitative indicators, the publication’s engineering specialty rankings are based solely on peer assessments by department heads in each area. Assessment surveys and statistical data were collected in fall 2020 and early 2021.

In the 2019-20 academic year, Ohio State’s College of Engineering awarded 655 graduate degrees.

In January, Ohio State was ranked 25th in the U.S. News & World Report Best Online Graduate Engineering Programs rankings. In the publication's 2021 Best Colleges issue, 10 departments within the College of Engineering placed among the nation’s top programs. Overall, Ohio State’s undergraduate engineering program again ranked first in Ohio and 15th among public universities nationwide.
