This semester the Department of Materials Science and Engineering is replacing its traditional colloquium series with the North American Materials Colloquium Series. The schedule of speakers includes an elite cast of post-doctoral scholars and graduate students in the materials field from 35 universities across the U.S. and Canada. One of our own has been invited to present during the inaugural program. We are proud to announce that Dr. Shan-Shan Wang, research associate with the Fontana Corrosion Center, is the featured speaker on October 8 and October 9. Her presentation is titled, "The Subsurface Structure of Abraded Al Alloys and its Influences on Corrosion" and will be streamed on Zoom. (the Zoom link will be provided closer to the dates)

Dr. Shan-Shan Wang is currently a research associate in Materials Science and Engineering and Fontana Corrosion Center at the Ohio State University. She earned her Ph.D. and Master’s degree in Materials Science at Harbin Institute of Technology in China, and Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Kunming University of Science and Technology in China. She came to the U.S. as a visiting student at The Ohio State University between 2011 and 2013. After receiving her Ph.D. degree in 2015, she returned to the Fontana Corrosion Center at Ohio State, where she performed research as a postdoctoral researcher (2015-2018) and research associate since 2018. Shan-Shan’s primary research interests are the relationship between microstructure and localized corrosion of metals and alloys, galvanic corrosion of mixed-metal systems, and protective coatings.
