The Department of Materials Science and Engineering welcomes Dr. Desmond Bourgeois to the faculty roster.

Desmond graduated with a Ph.D. from our Welding Engineering program in 2015. Since the completion of his Ph.D., Dr. Bourgeois has been a Materials Specialist – Welding Engineer at ExxonMobil and has served as a subject matter expert for large domestic and international projects (including Africa and South America).

With the addition of Dr. Bourgeois, we continue to strengthen the areas of welding and materials joining, which are fundamental to manufacturing, while leading research efforts in new directions.

Desmond’s background and interests in non-destructive evaluation and fracture mechanics as applied to conventionally processed and additively manufactured materials are in alignment with important strategic directions for the department.

Desmond brings perspectives from his extensive industry experience which will enable him to initiate research activities of high technical relevance. He will also provide an important industry perspective to students in the classroom.

Dr. Bourgeois also completed his M.S. in Welding Engineering at Ohio State. He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University.

The university is also pleased that his wife, Tiffany, will be joining the Arts Administration, Education and Policy Department.

The couple will be relocating to Columbus this summer.
