The Department of Materials Science and Engineering celebrates Academy Professor William Clark this month — the month of his birthday.

Clark came to The Ohio State University as an Assistant Professor of Metallurgical Engineering in 1979 and was given Emeritus distinction in 2014. A native of England, William Clark earned his B.S. in Physics with Materials Science from the University of Liverpool in 1972. He continued his education at the University of Oxford, where he received a DPhil in Metallurgy and the Science of Materials four years later.

The former tenure track faculty member is credited with founding and directing the Central Electron Optics Facility in 1982. This center is now called the Center for Electron Microscopy and Analsis (CEMAS), a world-class, multi-scale imaging facility that conducts $130M in research annually. In addition, Academy Professor Clark was the Associate Dean of the Graduate School from 1995-2005.

"My favorite memories as a faculty member are the camaraderie with faculty and students in the early days and the departmental climate."

Academy Professor Clark continues to be an influential figure at CEMAS. He visits the facility three days a week and is involved with interfacial phenomena, which includes publishing. When he is not at CEMAS, William can be found at the gym and on the golf course.

We wish William a very happy birthday and encourage him to celebrate the whole month.
