Professor Glenn Daehn Awarded Charles S. Barrett Silver Medal

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering congratulates Glenn Daehn, Fontana Professor, for being selected to receive the 2019 Charles S. Barrett Silver Medal from the Colorado School of Mines. The Rocky Mountain Chapter of ASM selected Daehn for exemplifying the efforts and career accomplishments made my Dr. Barrett and for distinguished contributions to the science of metallurgy. Dr. Daehn will be honored in February 2020 during a chapter meeting in Colorado. As is tradition for Silver Medal recipients, Glenn will present the 2019-2020 Barrett Award Lecture prior to receiving the 2019 Silver Medal. 

About the Charles S. Barrett Silver Medal

The Rocky Mountain Chapter of ASM International established the Charles S. Barrett Silver Medal to honor one of its most distinguished members. Dr. Charles S. Barrett was a pioneer in the study of the structure of metals and the application of x-ray diffraction techniques. He received his B.S. from South Dakota and his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. He was a professor of Metallurgy at Carnegie Institute of Technology and the University of Chicago, from which he retired. Upon retiring from the University of Chicago, Dr. Barrett moved to DU where he taught and conducted research.
