Sridhar brings corrosion expertise to Ohio State

Dr. Narasi Sridhar
has joined The Ohio State University as research professor of materials science and engineering. He will initiate the development of a Center for Aging Physical Systems on a part-time basis at Ohio State and will continue in his position as vice president of DNV GL, a firm that enables organizations to advance the safety and sustainability of their businesses.

Sridhar has extensive expertise in the area of corrosion of metals, with demonstrated leadership in the development of risk management for corroding systems, safe storage of nuclear waste, and the safe and sustainable use of materials and sensors to monitor degradation. He has served in several industrial research and leadership positions over the past 35 years with organizations like the Corrosion Group at Haynes International, Inc. the Southwest Research Institute, and DNV GL. At OSU, he has been an adjunct professor and served as a member of the Department’s External Advisory Committee.

He’s received numerous awards during his career, including the Technical Achievement Award in 2003, the Frank Newman Speller award in 2017,  and selection as 2011 Conference Plenary Lecturer by the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE). He was a member of the National Academy of Engineering Panel on Pipeline Safety, and chaired the 2014 Gordon Conference on Aqueous Corrosion.

He is a fellow of NACE, associate editor of Corrosion, and a member of the editorial board of Corrosion Engineering, Science and Technology. He holds eight patents and has authored or co-authored over 150 articles in the areas of alloy development and characterization, environmentally-assisted cracking, localized corrosion and modeling, risk assessment, sensors and monitoring, and carbon dioxide sequestration and utilization.
