Dr. Jian Yang

Dr. Yang received his PhD in Polymer Chemistry and Physics in 2002 at The Chinese Academy of Science in Beijing. After completing his PhD, he joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University (Evanston, IL, USA) for his postdoctoral training from 2003-2006. He was then recruited to the Department of Bioengineering at University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) as an assistant professor in 2006 and obtained an early promotion to associate professor with tenure in 2011. Dr. Yang moved to the Department of Biomedical Engineering, The Pennsylvania State University as a tenured associate professor in 2012 and then was promoted to the rank of full professor in 2015. Dr. Yang is directing a Transformative Biomaterials and Biotechnology Laboratory (TBBL) that is currently supported by 3 NIH R01 grants and 3 NSF grants. Dr. Yang has published 79 peer-reviewed journal articles, 8 issued patents, and 7 book chapters. He was a recipient of NSF CAREER Award (2010) and Outstanding Young Faculty Award of College of Engineering at UTA (2011). Dr. Yang was recently elected to the Fellow of American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) (Class of 2016). Dr. Yang serves as an Associate Editor for the journals “Frontiers in Biomaterials” and “Bioactive Materials” and also serves as a standing member for NIH “Biomaterials and Biointerfaces” study section. Dr. Yang is a co-founder and the secretary for (International) Chinese Association for Biomaterials (CAB). He has co-founded a biotechnology company, Aleo BME, Inc. and is also serving on the medical advisory board for Acuitive Technologies, Inc.
