Abstract
The development and application of surface analytical tools to corrosion science is one of the exciting areas in the field of corrosion research. The speaker will discuss the effective use of both laboratory-based techniques such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and vibrational spectroscopies, and synchrotron-based techniques such as X-ray absorption in understanding the corrosion behavior of alloys under both ambient and extreme conditions. Further, the application of such tools in coatings development and assessment will also be highlighted.
Bio
Dr. Dev Chidambaram is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Nevada Reno (UNR). He received a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering (2003) and a M.S. in Biomedical Engineering (2001) from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and a B. Tech in Chemical and Electrochemical Engineering (1998) from the Central Electrochemical Research institute, India. Prior to joining UNR, he was a staff Associate Scientist and a Goldhaber Distinguished Fellow at the Brookhaven National Laboratory. At UNR, Dr. Chidambaram’s research program is focused on understanding electron transfer processes using spectroscopic techniques, and applying that knowledge to solve interdisciplinary problems in materials corrosion and biological sciences.
