Polymer/Biomaterials Synthesis

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University ( invites applications for a regular tenure-track faculty appointment in the area of polymer synthesis for biomaterials. Appointment is anticipated at the rank of Full, Associate or Assistant Professor; tenure will be possible based on experience, research track record and technical accomplishments. Biomaterials research has many application areas at Ohio State, and the successful applicant will be expected to deepen and complement existing departmental activities in implant modification, tissue engineering, 3-D printing, sensors, cancer research and surface characterization while also supporting a strong teaching program in the area. Of particular interest are candidates with strengths in synthesis of polymers having directed functionality appropriate to addressing a range of challenges within Medicine. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain active sponsored research programs, teach core undergraduate and/or graduate courses and be an active participant in the international biomaterials community. Applicants are expected to be able to cross boundaries between Materials Science and Chemistry, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Biomedical Engineering.

Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree in materials science and engineering or in a closely related field such as chemical engineering or chemistry. Research leadership is expected including the ability to attract significant federal funding and/or industrial partnerships needed to sustain a vibrant research program. Additionally, the candidate should have evidence of being able to work cooperatively and collegially to advance research and teaching programs with greatest efficiency and highest impact. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2019.
