Advanced Ceramics Research Laboratory

Research

The Ohio State University has a long tradition in ceramic science and engineering. It was home to the first Ceramic Engineering department, founded in 1894 by Edward Orton Jr. Orton who was also one of the founders of The American Ceramic Society which is located close to The Ohio State University campus.

Ceramic science and engineering focuses on the powder and thin film processing of ceramics with emphasis on the liquid, solid, and vapor phase synthesis of semiconducting metal oxides. A focus on ternary chalcogenides is also included in ceramic science and engineering.

Activities performed by Perena Gouma, Ph.D., and the team at the Advanced Ceramics Research Laboratory (ACRL) include the development of novel technologies and systems relative to health care and environmental applications.
