Drop-in Tutoring

Drop-in tutoring covering the sophomore and junior MSE curricula is available every week, beginning Monday, January 10.

This effort is part of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering's continuing effort to make the major a welcoming and inclusive space for all students to learn.

We expect that students may be able to make a better tutoring relationship by working with the same tutor, an MSE senior, across multiple classes instead of only using individual class office hours.

Curricula taught in 2000- and 3000-level MSE classes

Drop-in tutoring hours are 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM from Sunday to Thursday when classes are in session.

Drop-in hours are cancelled on nights before holidays and university breaks.

In-person and online tutoring options are available.

The location of in-person tutoring - Fontana 2130

Online tutoring - Zoom link

To schedule additional tutoring hours, email the times you are available to msetutoring@osu.edu.

The tutors

Nick Hill

My name is Nick Hill, I am a senior from Columbus, Ohio and have plans to graduate this upcoming spring. I have interned for Abbott and Charter Steel and have had the chance to see the material science industry in multiple ways. On campus I am a member of the WOW program and the Bell National Resource Center. As a member of the WOW program, I help create educational videos and periodically visit elementary schools to help teach younger students about science.

Kiera Bulger

My name is Kiera Bulger, I am a senior from Mokena, Illinois, and I am graduating in spring 2022. When I came to college, I was torn between materials science and engineering and biomedical engineering. I ended up choosing materials science and engineering because I liked that there were so many different industries where I could work. I just finished up an internship at Medline Industries, a medical device company and will be working there as a quality engineer following graduation. On campus I am involved in Fighting Pretty, a philanthropy-based organization where we raise money to send packages to women that have gone through or are currently going through chemotherapy or other cancer treatments.

Aiden Raver

My name is Aidan Raver, and I am a senior materials science and engineering student from Powell, Ohio. I will be graduating in May 2022 and plan on continuing into a MSE doctoral program. I currently work under Dr. Niezgoda, where I model solute-dislocation interactions in solid solution high entropy alloys.

Sara Cohen

My name is Sara Cohen, and I am from Cincinnati, Ohio. I chose to go into Materials science and engineering because of the wide variety of applications it has and how we get to learn about so many different aspects of materials that make up everything. I am graduating in the fall of 2022 and I am not sure what I want to do after school yet since there are so many interesting fields to go into. Outside of school, I do cancer engineering research under Dr. Song in the biomedical engineering department, and I am a Resident Manager at Canfield Hall and an Office Assistant for residence life.
