Add / Drop graduate course

 

For graduate students in MATSCEN and WELDENG only.

The form below captures student, course, and instructor information needed to process a request to add / drop / adjust credits in a student's schedule. Please provide all info requested in order to speed the process. (see also Sec 3.4 of the Graduate School Handbook)

Adding credits

Please use the form at the link below to add credits if

  • instructor permission is required * and/or
  • it is past the 1st Friday of a term

* You will be asked to upload a PDF providing instructor approval to enroll (PDF of an email is sufficient).

Dropping credits

Please use the form below to withdraw from credits if it is past the 1st Friday of the term. Students may drop credits online through the Student Center Account (BuckeyeLink) until 11:59 p.m. EST on the 1st Friday of a term. (see also Sec 3.4.4 of the Graduate School Handbook)

  • Credits dropped on or before the 4th Friday of a term will not appear on the student's transcript.
    • Be aware of the refund dates leading up to the 4th Friday.
  • Credits dropped after the 4th Friday, but on or before the 10th Friday of a term, will receive a W grade on the transcript. This does not have an effect on the student's GPA, but it is entered on the transcript.
    • There is no refund of fees after the 4th Friday.
  • Students cannot drop credits after the 10th Friday of a term without an approved petition of the Graduate School.

Important add / drop dates

Please be aware of the following important dates in a term. *

Funded students For students funded by a GRA, fee-match GRA, or Fellowship it is the student's responsibility to maintain the minimum enrollment needed to activate funding. If a student drops below this minimum level funding will be withdrawn and all tuition fees will become the student's responsibility.

 

  • 1st Friday of the term
    • Last date to add or drop online. No record of credits dropped on or before this date will appear on the transcript and there will be a 100% refund of fees (if applicable).
    • Credits dropped after 1st Friday require advisor approval.
       
  • 2nd Friday of the term
    • Last date to add credits without penalty, however, course instructor permission required between 1st and 2nd Friday.
    • Credits dropped require advisor approval.
    • No record of credits dropped on or before this date will appear on the transcript and there will be a 75% refund of fees (if applicable).
       
  • 3rd Friday of the term
    • Credits dropped on or before this date will not appear on the transcript and there will be a 50% refund of fees (if applicable).
    • Credits dropped require advisor approval.
       
  • 4th Friday of the term
    • Credits dropped on or before this date will not appear on the transcript and there will be a 50% refund of fees (if applicable).
    • Credits dropped require advisor approval.
       
  • After the 4th Friday and before the 10th Friday
    • Withdrawals between the 4th Friday and on or before the 10th Friday of a semester will cause a "W" grade to post to the transcript. A "W" simply means that the student withdrew from the course between the 4th and 10th Fridays and does not count against the GPA.
    • No refund of fees is provided during this period (if applicable).
    • Credits dropped require advisor approval.
       
  • After the 10th Friday
    • No withdrawal from credits is permitted without approved petition of the Graduate School (typically only medical excuses are approved).
