Christian Brandl, Dipl. Ing.
PhD Student, Paul Scherrer Institute (Switzerland)
NANOMESO Activities:
Ab initio (AI), Atomistics (AT)
Christian Brandl joined the Materials Science and Engineering Simulation Group at the Paul Scherrer Institut (Switzerland) in March 2006. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering at Berufsakademie Mannheim (Germany), through a collaborative education project with DaimlerChrysler. He continued studies in Theoretical Mechanical Engineering at University Karlsruhe (TH) and concluded with a thesis on crack tip plasticity. His role in NANOMESO is to investigate the key mechanisms of plasticity in nanocrystalline grain boundary networks using molecular dynamics simulations. He will also use ab initio methods to determine generalized stacking fault energies.
